The smell of home baking made me give thanks for the sense of smell.

...for M, a church friend who was a good handiman to me today when my back door refused to close.

Looking around me at all the Christmas cards, I feel lucky to have so many people who think of me, and send me a card.

The snow had gone enough for me to spend Christmas Day with my Mum.

For a lovely totally unexpected gift of flowers and cards for my birthday tomorrow

I appreciated the kindness of my boss when he offered to get anything I needed today when I was off work with a cold/flu

It was a joy to hear the sound of my little canary singing as I opened the front door at lunch time.

Today, being All Saint`s Day, is/was my Dad`s birthday, and the services at our church today were so relevant, meaningful and moving. A true blessing.

The weather improved today so I was able to take the flowers to my Dad`s grave that I hadn`t been able to yesterday

I am so thankful that although my radio alarm failed to come on this morning (yes it was set right), that I woke just in time to get up to go to work.

I`ve just received a letter by early post - seeing it on the doormat, fear leapt to my thoughts, as it was a medical envelope, obviously the results of a test I`d had seven days ago. They`d told me that the result would probably be about 4 weeks coming - so I guessed it was bad news. But..... tentatively opening it and reading it - yippee... it said everything was normal, and my next test would be in 5 years time.
I really gave thanks for that this morning.

Passing the dustmen - or should I say Refuse collectors?, on my way to work this morning, it made me think how we should count our blessings that there are such people willing to do such dirty and smelly jobs that I know I wouldn`t want to do. So, today, I give thanks for them.

That the wind dried my washing and didn`t blow it off the line!

For the fishermen who go to sea to provide me with delicious fish for my dinner

Spent an enjoyable evening working on some artwork with a friend

Oh dear! - I seem to have slipped again in posting my daily blessings on here. It doesn`t mean though that I`ve not been counting my blessings each day, most days I have.

For today, I give thanks for a light shower of rain during the night which just watered in the bulbs I had set in the afternoon. Exactly what they needed.

I dropped a trowel while in the garden this morning, and was was thankful that although it hit my foot it didn`t cut it.

Setting some plants in pots for my parent today, I heard a sound which made me stop and listen...

..... it was of young birds in a nest box near by as their parent blue-tit flew back and forth with food for them.

What a wonderful sound.

A Welcome shower

A welcome light shower of rain came this evening, just right for all the seeds I`d set in the garden today.

Kettle

...for a Kettle ! I`ve no hot water, the water-heater`s gone wrong - so I`m so glad I`ve at least got a kettle.

Memories

I`m counting my blessings today, that I did have such a good Dad, and for the memories I have of him.

A day out

Had a really enjoyable day with my parent. I`m so thankful that she has settled well into her `new` home. (Well, new = 6 months)

Sunday joint

...that my joint of meat was cooked in time for me to go and collect my parent today.

Music to the ear

The house is again filled with the beautiful sound of bird song

The rain stopped and the sun came out - a real blessing to the day

Just in time

I realised just in time this morning, before I parked my car on a local car park, that my seasonal parking ticket would have run out of date! So I saved myself getting a fine and luckily found a handy parking place on the road.

Alive

I`ve just been so thankful these last few days that when I`ve got up in the morning my little bird has still been alive.

...that I had enough stamps for the large mailing of envelopes I was preparaing.

Frost

Everywhere looked so beautiful covered in thick white frost this morning.

Help at hand

I was so thankful today that a couple of people passed by as my mother was getting out of my car, as Mum (not being very mobile at the best of times), slipped back and sort of fell backwards half on and half off of the seat, and got at an awkward angle to get herself out, even with my help. The couple responded to my call to them and came and helped me to get Mum out of the car safely.

Feathered friend

I was so glad, when I got up this morning, that my little bird who hasn`t seemed well for the last few days was still alive, and he even seems just a little bit better today.

....that it wasn`t frosty and slippery when I walked to work this morning

Beautiful nature

Saw a really beautiful sunset across a field white with frosty snow, and trees silhouetted against the orange sky. Beautiful.

Useful technology

...for technology! - being able to find on my computer (google maps) a veiw of the place I`ve to go to tomorrow

Time

I actually had a whole Sunday to myself. Really nice. Just went to church in morning and evening and had the rest of the day at home relaxing. (well, if you can call taking Christmas tree and cards down and packing them all away, relaxing?!)

It gave me a smile

The sight of five tiny dogs trotting along the pavement with red and blue coats on, gave me a smile today.

New life

Sitting looking out of my office window this morning my attention was caught by a bird on a shop ledge opposite, it was picking up small pieces of twig and flying up under the roof with them. It was such a lovely sight, to see and realise that it was starting on nest building. It just seemed a lovely "new" start to the New Year.
